Common questions.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a child's first dental visit by their first birthday or within 6 months of their first tooth erupting, whichever comes first. Early visits establish baseline records, allow us to spot early issues, and most importantly, make the dentist a familiar and non-scary place.

Absolutely, primary teeth hold space for permanent teeth, support speech development, and allow proper chewing. Untreated cavities in baby teeth can cause pain, infection, and premature loss that disrupts the eruption of permanent teeth. We treat primary teeth with the same care and precision as adult teeth.

Our pediatric team is specifically trained in behavior management for young patients. We use tell-show-do technique (explaining, demonstrating, then doing), a vocabulary designed for children, plenty of praise, and, for more anxious patients, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) as a safe, effective calming option. The goal is to make every visit positive.

Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is a mild sedative inhaled through a small mask placed over the nose. It induces a relaxed, calm state while the child remains fully conscious and able to communicate. It wears off completely within minutes of removing the mask. It has a decades-long safety record in pediatric dentistry.

For most children, every 6 months is standard. Children with higher cavity risk, due to diet, fluoride exposure, or anatomy, may benefit from every 3-4 months. We'll recommend the right schedule at your child's first visit.
