Invisalign in the Financial District: What Nobody Tells You

February 10, 20267 min read·By Dr. Wonnie Rhieu Garrett

We're a Pearl Provider, top 1% nationally. After hundreds of Invisalign cases in FiDi, here are the questions patients ask privately that nobody answers publicly.

At Sky Dental, we've treated hundreds of Invisalign cases, from simple spacing issues to complex bite corrections. As a Pearl Provider (top 1% of providers nationally), we've seen the whole spectrum. And there are a handful of questions that come up in nearly every consultation that the marketing materials never quite answer.

Here are the honest answers.

Does Invisalign hurt?

Not the way people expect. There's no poking wire, no tightening appointments that leave your teeth aching for three days.

What you do feel: a mild pressure, sometimes a slight achiness, for the first 24-48 hours after switching to a new set of trays. This is normal, it means the trays are doing their job. Most patients describe it as "awareness" more than pain. Over-the-counter pain relievers handle it easily.

Tip: switch to new trays at night. By morning, the worst of the pressure is past.

Can I eat whatever I want?

Yes, that's the point. You remove the aligners to eat. No brackets to trap food, no broken wires from a careless bite.

The practical caveat: you're supposed to wear your aligners 22 hours a day. That means you have about two hours total for eating, drinking anything other than water, and brushing. Most patients adapt quickly. A few find it changes their snacking habits, which they don't always mind.

Will people know I'm wearing them?

At conversational distance, the aligners are nearly invisible. People who interact with you daily may eventually notice, close friends sometimes ask "did you do something different?" But no one across a conference table or on a video call will see them.

The attachments (small tooth-colored bumps bonded to some teeth) are slightly more visible than the aligner itself. These vary by case; not every patient needs them.

How long does it actually take?

The answer you'll get at any provider: "depends on your case." The honest version: most adult cases with mild-to-moderate crowding take 12-18 months. Simpler cases (closing one gap, minor rotation) can be 6-8 months. Complex cases can run 24 months or more.

We set realistic timelines at consultation, not optimistic ones. Cases that get extended are usually because the patient wasn't wearing their trays consistently.

What happens after?

Retainers. This is non-negotiable and often undersold. After any orthodontic treatment, teeth want to shift back. You'll wear retainers nightly (forever, realistically) to hold your result.

We provide custom retainers at the end of treatment and include replacement retainer appointments in our post-treatment follow-up.

Is Sky Dental the right choice for Invisalign?

We treat Invisalign as a clinical procedure, not a product. Every case is managed by a doctor with years of orthodontic training, not a technician. We use SkySmileScan™ to show you your projected result before you commit. And we monitor your progress at every checkpoint appointment, something that matters enormously for complex cases.

Book a consultation and see your projected result before you decide.
